Hey! Who the heck are you & what's this blog all about?!?!

My name is Rachel, my husband is Steven.  Life has changed A LOT for us in the past three years.  I used to be a professional ballet dancer (classical and contemporary), then added teaching, choreographing, and dance production to my dancing.  I've had the privilege of dancing at the Royal Ballet in London, the Kirov Ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia, and various companies in the US and Canada.  Here's a picture of me in my dancing days:

My husband has traveled the world in his profession, been to 23 countries and has done motivational and spiritual speaking seminars for literally hundreds of thousands of people.

Life is very different now.

A couple of year ago, my body sort of began falling apart.  No one could explain the seemingly unrelated symptoms but they became debilitating.  Finally, I was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.  EDS as it's referred to (because it's too darn hard to pronounce the full name!), is a genetic, connective tissue disorder than can affect any connective tissue (collagen) in the body.  The body is made up of 30% collagen so that's a lot of areas that can be affected.  I found that the dancing had exacerbated the problem and not only was I having chronic joint pain and subluxations (partial dislocations) in over 20 joints, but I have a headache that's lasted 24/7 for 2.5 years and I've had serious, serious breathing problems.  My airways collapse and I'm on oxygen and continuous positive airway pressure to try to treat it.  I've had 3 surgeries in the past 6 months, 2 surgeries the year before and so many tests and surgical procedures that I've lost count (once it went over 100).  So, I'm now disabled and my husband has had to stop his speaking and travel to care for me...and I'm only 34.

Some friends have been kind enough to allow us to share a house with them which has made life possible the past two years but now, they need to move and subsequently, so do we.  We're downsizing as much as we possibly can to pay for both the move and medical expenses.  My doctors also want me nearer the hospital as the breathing issues have the capacity to get extremely serious very quickly and I would need emergency medical treatment.

So, that's the story.  We have to move, and we have to do it SOON.  Don't yet know where that will be but we're trusting that everything will work out somehow.  So, please, take a look at the stuff we're selling and grab a bargain.  We've got to get rid of it all as we can't physically move it all.

Inside my airways with a metal mesh stent to try to hold them open...it failed and had to be removed. :(
